Supporting Integrated Care for Kidney Patients

    April 2022

NKF’s dialysis centre at Yishun Community Hospital was officially launched by Minister of Health Mr Ong Ye Kung (fourth from right), alongside Mr Danny Teoh, Chairman of Keppel Corporation (third from left); Mr Arthur Lang, Chairman of NKF (third from left); Mr Loh Chin Hua, CEO of Keppel Corporation (second from left); Mr Tim Oei, CEO of NKF (right), Professor Chua Hong Choon, CEO of Yishun Health (second from right); and Mr Ho Tong Yen, CEO of Keppel Care Foundation (left).

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF)’s new dialysis centre, developed with a $2 million donation from Keppel Corporation through the Group’s philanthropic arm, Keppel Care Foundation, was officially opened by Minister of Health, Mr Ong Ye Kung, on 10 April 2022. The dialysis centre is strategically located within Yishun Community Hospital and adjacent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, enabling seamless and timely transfer of patients from one setting to another, facilitating ease of access to care and services.

The dialysis centre is the first in Singapore to be integrated within a hospital compound, and the first of NKF’s centres to offer fully integrated and seamless dialysis care for both haemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. The centre can accommodate up to 132 HD patients and up to 30 PD patients a month. More than 100 patients have benefitted from the new PD services since operations commenced in December 2020.

Mr Danny Teoh, Chairman of Keppel Corporation, said, “Keppel has long been a partner of NKF, and when NKF shared with us its plans to open its first dialysis centre that is integrated within a hospital compound, we readily supported the initiative. Keppel believes in doing good, as we do well, and we are committed to giving back to the community, whether through supporting education, protecting the environment or caring for the underprivileged. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with likeminded partners such as NKF to support the less fortunate among us.”

Mr Arthur Lang, Chairman of NKF said, “The care of chronic kidney patients cuts across various providers, institutions and departments including community-based organisations like NKF. We are extremely grateful for the strong support of the Keppel Group, without which this centre would not have been possible. Their unwavering support towards our cause is indeed benefitting many dialysis patients.”
