    A Gift of Sight

    December 2017

    Since 2006, over 100 staff from Spring City Golf and Lake Resort in Kunming, China have been volunteering their time and resources in reaching out to the underprivileged villagers in Kunming.

    The video depicts a compelling short documentary on volunteers from Keppel Land China collaborating with Bless China to restore the eyesight of more than 100 villagers affected by cataracts and how the improved eyesight have vastly improved their daily lives.

    Bringing Care Bundles to Families

    Conserving a Freshwater Wetland in the City

    September 2016

    Come early 2017, members of the public will be able to experience a unique natural habitat in the heart of the city for the very first time, with the opening of the Keppel Discovery Wetlands at Singapore Botanic Gardens.

    Keppel has committed $2.08 million to the Garden City Fund to support the restoration of a freshwater forest wetland ecosystem historically found in the vicinity of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, which is Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage site.

    Career Capers

    July 2016

    It was all 'work' and no play for 15 young beneficiaries from Fei Yue Student Care Centre on the afternoon of 22 June 2016, as they tried their hands at different 'careers' during Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation's (Keppel T&T) KidZania Edutainment Day Out volunteer activity, held at Kidzania Singapore.

    The event saw 10 volunteers from Keppel T&T bring the bright-eyed children, aged seven to nine years old around the indoor 'kid-sized city' that allows children to live out their dreams of role-playing many different careers, including being a chef, pilot, doctor, firefighter and courier.

    Acts of Care

    It was a rewarding morning for Keppel Volunteers and 28 senior beneficiaries from the Thye Hua Kwan Bedok Radiance Senior Activity Centre (THK SAC) on 11 June 2016. Working together with rapt concentration at the Keppel Leadership Institute, they bonded over creating unique and colourful terrariums, as well as a volunteers-led karaoke and dance session thereafter.

    Enriching Lives

    As a rewarding corporate citizen, Keppel REIT is committed to make a positive contribution to the less privileged in the community. Forty-one employees from Keppel REIT reached out to youths from the Muscular Dystrophy Association Singapore (MDAS) on 23 June 2016 with a visit to the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum where the volunteers, youths and their caregivers immersed themselves in the exhibits showcasing Singapore's rich biodiversity.

    Hands-On Engagement

    May 2016

    Whether through bowling or building bricks, Keppel Volunteers provided hands-on experience for both beneficiaries and Keppelites during the month of April.

    A LEGO workshop for children of Kandang Kerbau Hospital (KKH) was held on 16 April 2016 involving 30 volunteers, who interacted with the children through a LEGO speed building competition. Apart from trying their hand at innovative designs, the children were also challenged by volunteers with a few rounds of mathematical games.

    In a separate event on 23 April 2016, Keppel Volunteers guided seniors from the Thye Hua Kwan Bedok Radiance Senior Activity Centre (THK SAC) in a game of bowling at the Safra Toa Payoh SuperBowl Centre.

    Continuing Arts Engagement

    April 2016

    Keppel Corporation and Esplanade-Theatres on the Bay have renewed their partnership for Keppel Nights, a programme that provides students from heartland schools in Singapore with access to arts and cultural shows presented by Esplanade.

    Since its relaunch in 2013, Keppel Nights has benefited over 9,000 students from some 50 schools. Keppel Corporation renewed its sponsorship by committing $300,000 towards another term from 2015 to 2017.

    To boost students' engagement with the arts through experiential learning, Keppel Nights has expanded its scope to include workshops for students to experience different art forms and get a taste of performing.

    Ringing in Spring

    Reaching out to 100 beneficiaries, 30 Keppel Volunteers participated in Community Chest’s Fu Dai (festive packages) campaign on 23 January 2016, which brought the community together to show care and concern for the less fortunate amidst the Lunar New Year festivities.

    Apart from contributing donations via Keppel Care Foundation, the volunteers packed and delivered essential household items and necessities to frail elderly and families in need.

    Caring for the Community

    Keppel Land participated in the Metropolitan YMCA’s MY Blessings community outreach event on 18 December 2015.

    Supported by Keppel Care Foundation, eleven staff volunteers from Keppel Land took part in the event, distributing goodie bags and food items to over 150 needy families to spread cheer during the Christmas season.

    Celebrating Arts for All

    December 2015

    As part of the National Gallery Singapore’s opening celebrations, the Keppel Centre for Art Education (The Centre) welcomed visits by Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Tony Tan Keng Yam.

    The Centre was established with a $12 million contribution from Keppel, with the aim of nurturing generations of creative and critical thinkers through art education. It is the region’s first art education facility specially designed to expose young visitors to the arts.

    PM Lee shared in his opening speech on 23 November 2015, “The Gallery will not just be for art aficionados, but will be for everyone, including families and children. The Centre is designed to engage our young visitors with their families. “

    Leveraging skills, Equipping lives

    December 2015

    Keppel Volunteers, supported by Keppel Care Foundation, organised a financial literacy carnival for Care Corner beneficiaries on 21 November 2015. Held at the Republic Polytechnic, the carnival brought together Keppel Volunteers from finance departments across the Group and saw more than 200 underprivileged children and their families from Care Corner thronging the carnival hall and hopping from stall to stall collecting credits from innovative games designed to reinforce financial management tips they had learnt from the skills-based volunteering workshops held in June and July to equip families with financial literacy skills.

    Scaling Heights for Charity

    December 2015

    To help raise awareness and funds for mental health, Keppel REIT took part in the Mindset Challenge, a vertical marathon held at Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower One on 15 November 2015. Organised by Jardine Ambassadors, Keppel REIT staff took part in the individual and team categories of the vertical marathon, climbing up all 33-storeys in the building.

    Monies raised went towards the operation of Creative Mindset for Mental Health, where art, music and dance are used as forms of expressive therapy to promote psychological wellness and mental health recovery.

    March of the Reindeers

    In support of Singapore Disability Sports Council’s work to foster inclusiveness and promote a healthy lifestyle among the abled and disabled, Keppel Care Foundation, through Keppel Land, sponsored the Reindeer Walk-A-Wheelathon on 14 November 2015.

    60 Keppelites from Keppel Land, Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation and Keppelite Recreation Club took part in the 2km charity walk at Marina Bay Sands in conjunction with the 7th ASEAN Para Games that drew close to 8,000 participants.

    Racing for a Cause

    November 2015

    Keppel Care Foundation contributed $30,000 to the Singapore Exchange’s Bull Charge Charity Run 2015, an annual running event to raise funds for the underprivileged.

    Keppelites across the Group joined more than 6,000 participants from the finance industry and SGX-listed companies in the race on 13 November 2015, with four runners from Keppel Shipyard clinching first place in the ‘Top 3 Fastest Teams’ category.

    Bowling with Special Olympics Atheletes

    Three teams of volunteers from Keppel, together with special athletes came up tops at the Special Olympics Charity Bowl on 7 November 2015.

    Touching Lives Through Art Education

    October 2015

    The Keppel Centre for Art Education (The Centre) was established with a $12 million contribution from Keppel, with the aim of nurturing generations of creative and critical thinkers through art education.

    A dedicated facility in the National Gallery Singapore, The Centre will offer an exciting line-up of museum programmes and activities for a projected 250,000 children, youth and families annually.

    As a founding partner of the Gallery, Keppel's contribution to establish the Centre has made it the first of its kind in the region. Comprising four distinct art spaces, young visitors can create their own artworks, discover new ideas, interact and learn through play. Volunteers from Keppel are also trained to facilitate activities at the Centre for primary school children and the public when the Gallery officially opens on 23 November 2015.

    Lauded for Giving

    Keppel Care Foundation was awarded the Corporate Gold Award for its sustained contributions towards Community Chest beneficiaries at the Community Chest Awards Ceremony at the iconic Capitol Theatre on 25 September 2015. The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Singapore President Tony Tan. Mr Robert Chong, Director of Group Human Resources, Keppel Corporation and CEO of Keppel Care Foundation, received the award on behalf of the Foundation from Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister for Social and Family Development.

    Race to the Top

    August 2015

    Two teams from Keppel Offshore & Marine traded their boiler suits for sports attire and ran their hearts out in the "Race to the Sky 2015" Vertical Marathon, held at Marina Bay Sands on 7 August 2015. Supported by Keppel Care Foundation, the charity fundraiser for Community Chest beneficiaries involved participants racing up 57 floors to the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark, to raise funds for over 80 charities focused on supporting children with special needs, the elderly, adults with disabilities and improving relationships of families in difficulty to stay strong.

    Nurturing Arts Appreciation in the Young

    The money, given under the relaunched Keppel Nights programme, will go towards subsidising tickets for performances at the centre to give students from the heartland schools access to world-class performances presented by Esplanade.

    Empowering the Underprivileged with Skills-Based Volunteering

    July 2015

    To empower low-income families with information and skills to build financial stability, Keppel Care Foundation supported Keppel Volunteers in its first skills-based volunteerism programme, with finance professionals from Keppel Group channeling their professional skills to customise a financial literacy programme for Care Corner Family Service Centre (Admiralty).

    Three workshops were held in June and July 2015 to inculcate good saving habits amongst the parents of low-income families, to equip them with basic literacy and to inspire families to start simple saving habits and budgeting, which are essential skills to help them break out of the poverty cycle. The workshop was wholly sponsored by Keppel Care Foundation, with grocery shopping vouchers gifted to the families as part of the programme.

    Keppel Care Foundation Supports KKH Health Endowment Fund

    July 2015

    In conjunction with KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital’s SG50 programmes, Keppel Care Foundation has donated $50,000 to the KKH Health Endowment fund for underprivileged children under its care. The fund supports needy patients who often have exhausted all options and are in need of financial assistance for their medical treatment. The fund also supports education, research and disease prevention programmes targeted at women’s and children’s health.

    The foundation’s support of the programmes also provided a platform for KKH and Keppel Volunteers to collaborate on outreach activities that benefit underprivileged children and their families. 80 Keppel volunteers set up games stalls and posters to educate and entertain over 200 children and their families at the carnival.

    Mr. Robert Chong, CEO of Keppel Care Foundation, shared, “Building on ongoing initiatives by Keppel Volunteers with KKH, we will strengthen our partnership through developing sustainable programmes that will benefit more children in need”.

    Supporting the Physically Disabled

    March 2015

    Keppel Care Foundation donated $50,000 in support of the Society for the Physically Disabled (SDP) Charity Show 2015, to support the continuing availability of programmes and services which are developed to equip and enable people with disabilities towards independence and integration into society.

    Spreading the Love to the Elderly at Bright Hill Evergreen Home

    February 2015

    Forty Keppel Volunteers ushered in the year of the goat with goodies for elderly residents of Bright Hill Evergreen Home, a nursing facility for the aged. The volunteers visited the home on 5 February and packed Chinese New Year goodies and various household necessities into more than 240 Fu Dais (prosperity bags) before presenting them to the senior residents.

    Besides rendering support through bonding with the elderly, Keppel Care Foundation also donated $100,000 in 2014 towards operating expenses such as sponsoring meals and maintaining facilities at the home.

    Christmas Cheer with Community Chest

    Championing Volunteerism and Philanthropy

    Ten exemplary role models were lauded for going the extra mile and doing good for others at the annual President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards (PVPA) on 15 October 2014.

    Keppel Care Foundation, having won the President’s award under the Philanthropy (Corporate) category in 2013, sponsored the Volunteerism trophy which went to PricewaterhouseCoopers.

    The PVPA is organised by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the National Council of Social Service.

    Hearts Abloom at Gardens by the Bay

    August 2013

    Some 50 volunteers from Keppel Corporation brought over 40 students from the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS)-Towner Gardens School for an educational tour of Gardens by the Bay on 26 August 2013.

    The outing was organised as part of Keppel Community Month to commemorate Keppel Corporation's 45th anniversary in August. The year-long community engagement kicked off in March 2013 with a $1.5 million donation from Keppel Care Foundation towards the President's Challenge 2013 and Keppel Corporation pledging 5,000 hours of community service.

    Ms. Loke Choi Yoke, Vice Principal at MINDS, shared "Many thanks to Keppel for organising the tour at Gardens by the Bay. Our students enjoyed themselves very much at the outing and were beaming with smiles."

    President’s Challenge 2013 Launched with $1.5 million donation from Keppel Care Foundation

    At the launch of President’s Challenge 2013 by President Tony Tan Keng Yam at Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) on 22 March 2013, Keppel became the first donor with $1.5 million support from Keppel Care Foundation.

    Initiated by former President S R Nathan in 2000 and continued by President Tony Tan in 2012, the President's Challenge represents a coming together of people from all walks of life, under the President’s patronage, to help those who are less fortunate. It is the President’s call to all Singaporeans to do their part to build a more caring and cohesive society.

    Beyond fundraising, President's Challenge champions the giving of time, knowledge and expertise to help the underprivileged. In addition to the cash donation, Keppel also pledged 5,000 hours of community service in Singapore, and through its human resource talents, will share experience and assist social enterprises nominated for the President Challenge's Social Enterprise Award.

    Warming the Hearts of the Needy

    February 2013

    Keppel Care Foundation donated $100,000 to the Community Chest’s Festive Care and Share Campaign, in aid of social service programmes supported by the Community Chest. To build on Keppel Care Foundation’s contribution, Keppel Volunteers and Keppel Young Leaders teamed up to bring cheer to the residents of Bright Hill Evergreen Home, a nursing facility for the aged which is under the Community Chest umbrella.

    More than 45 volunteers rallied to usher in the Lunar New Year with elderly residents of the Home on 21 January 2013. Volunteers worked hand-in-hand with the residents to make festive lanterns and other Lunar New Year decorations, and distributed ang pows, goodie bags containing oranges and chicken’s essence to all residents of the home.

    Keppel Care Foundation Supports National Parks Board in Nature Cares Programme

    In line with its focus on protecting the environment and nurturing communities, Keppel Care Foundation is supporting National Parks Board (NParks) in its Nature Cares programme, an integrated community engagement programme that brings together corporates and school children to connect with community groups including the elderly and children with special needs, through structured nature-related activities.

    Launched on 30 October 2012 by President Tony Tan and supported by the Garden City Fund, NParks’ charity arm, Nature Cares begins its year-long pilot run with Keppel Care Foundation, Queenstown Primary School and St Theresa’s Home in January 2013.

    Celebrating Success by Giving Back

    September 2012

    To mark its launch at a fundraising concert to celebrate Keppel Offshore & Marine’s 10th anniversary on 9 September 2012, Keppel Care Foundation donated a total of $6.7 million to three organisations – National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and Singapore Polytechnic, in support of new and current programmes advancing education. Programmes supported include the following:-

    • Keppel-NUS Vietnam Programme in Medicine to advance medical education between the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Hanoi Medical University and Vietnam Military Medical University;

    • SUTD - Keppel Awards of Excellence to recognize the outstanding achievements of SUTD students who pursue excellence in their studies of design and technology while contributing significantly to the community, as well as Keppel Bursary Awards to provide deserving students from low-income families with study grants.

    • The SR Nathan Professorship in Social Work to bring in renowned academia to advance social work education and support research on social development issues.

    • Chua Chor Teck Memorial Fund to provide scholarships to students of Singapore Polytechnic with a desire to work in the maritime industry.
